Work Hard or Work Smart.

Proverbs 14:23  In all labour there is profit: but talk of lips tends only to penury.

The word of God has a lot to say about work and labour. Col. 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.
Work has become a dirty word in our time. It seems that when people find a job, they stop looking for work. The get rich quick mentality is eroding some fundamental truths. It is true that some have struck it very rich with “seemingly” low input, but this is not the rule. We were created to work and be creative. Work was ordained before the fall of man. Gen. 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
Someone once said, “I find more fun in working, then when I am looking to have fun.” It is true that some work hard, and others work smart. I try to work hard at working smart. This allows God plenty of room to move on my behalf.
The reason rivers are crooked is that water finds the least amount of resistance as it carves and flows its path to the ocean. Man’s character can become lazy in a similar way in that he looks for the least amount of work for the most amount of pay.
I’m not saying you should feel guilty if you have a great career, rather to the contrary, say thank you for that blessing. I’m not suggesting that you have to be a slave to your job and not find easier ways of doing the work and enjoying more productivity using your abilities.
I’m saying we were created to be creative and productive for our life’s growth. God has given us the ability to do whatever we put our minds to doing. Work, and working during our life is biblical. Psalm 92:14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age. Work and creativity will continue into old age.
Matt. 9:37 The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
We will work here on earth, and we will work with the Lord forever in glory. Work is here to stay.

An Offensive Disease

Proverbs 21:2 Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the hearts. We are not talking about the horrible effects that the black death plague, the Spanish flu, or our modern-day HIV had on people's lives. But more insidious, and deceitful is a...

Spiritually Empty

Proverbs 31:26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.              Who are the ones living their spiritual lives on empty? I've noticed that those who break God's laws regularly tend to fall apart when times go bad. They just seem...

Wherever You Go

Proverbs 11:10 When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish there are shouts of gladness.               Michel de Montaigne said, “If you don’t know where you are sailing, no wind is favourable.”       God has given us the...

The Agony Of The Cross

Proverbs 15:4 Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.              I saw a painting depicting the agony of the cross that Jesus was nailed to. This image so pierced my heart, that it caused an emotional pain of sorrow. Not only was the...

Life Moves On

Proverbs 15:24 The path of life leads upward for the prudent to keep them from going down to the realm of the dead.       While crawling along the four-lane two-way street, I leaned back in my seat with one hand on the steering wheel as the traffic crept along. The...

What Happened To?

Proverbs 18:19 An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars.            After a few years of lockdowns, and half-capacity attendance within the...

Better Off Not Born

Proverbs 16:4 The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.            While reading the book of Ecclesiastes, I realized the importance of the new birth in Christ or being born again as...

Burn The Ships

Proverbs 4:25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Many events concerning what is recorded in history are being rewritten as new documents are found, or some of the old chronicles are being properly interpreted. The argument about...

The Peter Moment

Proverbs 20:9 Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin”?            Have you ever experienced that Peter moment when Jesus turns and looks you in the eye? When you mess up and sin, and in the...
