Functioning In Dysfunction

Proverbs 5:13 I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me!

Good enough is not God’s best. Close enough is not that close. When we are living from one mess to another and become comfortable functioning in the dysfunctions of life, our spiritual ear can become dull of hearing what the Lord is saying to our soul. We no longer try to understand what God is saying in our lives. Heb. 5:11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand.
St Augustine said: “You are what you love.” If you love chaos and are constantly operating from a point of dysfunction, then your heart becomes slow to grasp what God is sowing into your heart. Fear starts to replace faith and as someone said: “Fear tolerated is faith contaminated.”
There seems to be a nonchalance or norm about the dysfunction that consumes most of the day’s events. People are learning to function within their dysfunction, then they wonder why nothing of eternal value is getting done or realized in their hearts.
They put stronger efforts into doing the same dysfunctional things and end up angry and discouraged with life. Haggai 1:6 You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes.
People are tiredly rushing here and there, only to put another temporary patch on a family argument or blunder through another day of endless tasks to get blindsided by an unexpected bill that empties the family savings account; bringing unnatural pressures to the continual everyday dysfunction.
Some want to pull their hair out and scream something outrageous or shout: “Stop the madness.” Prov. 5:13 I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me! Others simply fold over in exhaustion. Psalm 6:6 I am weary from my groaning. Every night my couch is drenched with tears, my bed is soaked through.
Dysfunction is not God’s plan for our lives. Chaos is not God’s design for a life of peace in Christ. Poor health because of stress is not God’s purpose for our relationship with the Lord on this earth. Jesus came that we would have, possess, own, and exist in and with abundant life. John 10:10 The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
God’s love for us is real and abundant. His thoughts towards us are thoughts of victory and blessing, not second-hand existence. I reiterate what I have said in the past. The enemy of our soul tries to keep us focused on the regrets of the past and the fears of the future, so that we do nothing for God today. God says in Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

God wants us focused on the day we are in, because that is the day we are actually living. The past has passed and the future is not here yet. Today is the day of living and salvation. Today is the day to function in the rest, peace, and joy of the Lord. Today is the day to incline our ear to the teaching of the Lord. Today, look up and bless the Lord. Psalm 46:10a Be still, and know that I am God. Stop the momentum of a dysfunctional life by functioning in the Love of God for this day. May the peace of God favor us this day. Amen!

There Is No Hate Like Christian Hate

Proverbs 6:16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to Him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a lying witness who gives false...

Anger Is Expensive

Proverbs 16:32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.         In the early 1980s, while attending Bible college and living in Australia, I ministered in prisons for a few years. A common regret among...

Choose Your Hard

Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. No matter what people say, life is hard. Some have it much harder than others, but overall, for most of the world's population, life is...

Make Your Bed

Acts 9:33 There he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years and was paralyzed. 34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed.” Then he arose immediately.         I heard Derek Prince say, "The voice...

You Can’t Say That!

Matthew 10:19 But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say. My pronouns are The Redeemed of the Lord, and The Righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. You can call me that anytime you want....

A Useful Idiot

The Low Hum Of Dread

Joshua 2:10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the waters of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites across the Jordan, whom you devoted to destruction. 11 When we heard this, our hearts...

That’s A Lot Of Faith

Acts 19:19 Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totalled fifty thousand pieces of silver.         When God gets hold of a person's heart, there is...

Christianism Falls Short

Galatians 1:8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a curse!       Christianism generally refers to the use of Christian principles as a political ideology. This is why Christianism does...

Keep Breathing

Genesis 2:7 Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.         My friend Glennis asked her hundred-year-old grandfather what the secret to longevity was. He...

Living Loving Laughing

Daniel 5:5 In the same hour, the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 6 Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him,...

Adjusting To Chaos

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.         Those who have found themselves easily adjusting to chaos, led by...
