Proverbs 1:29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD.
We have no problems when it comes to making up our mind to unsubscribe from a website or channel, unfriend a toxic person on a media platform. Why then, not unchoose a terrible choice we once made? Changing our minds is a God-given blessing. As a matter of fact, it is how we repent. We change our minds after God has shown us the truth on a matter.
The interesting thing about changing our minds is that we are imitating God when we do it. Ex. 32:14 So the LORD changed his mind about the terrible disaster he had threatened to bring on his people. Even God can repent or change His mind. It’s not that God needs to repent of sin, because He has never sinned or ever will. However, He can change His mind, and when we come to Him in prayer, and we have reasoned with Him through His Word, a change for our destiny is possible.
Saul the Pharisee became Paul the Apostle after he did some unchoosing of his previous choices. It started to change for Saul when the Lord asked him why he was persecuting Jesus by persecuting the church. Saul had to answer the question from a humbling position after falling to the ground. Acts 9:4 Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” It’s as if Saul’s choices had brought him to this fallen state. Saul immediately changed his mind concerning Jesus. He repented by unchoosing his old choices concerning the Lord’s church. Acts 9:6a So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?”
We have all made bad choices that have brought sadness, despair, and damage to our lives. We have felt the result of terrible choices in relationships that have hurt so many people. How many people have expressed the desire to hit a reset button on the choices they had made because they had rejected the advice of God, friends, and their own hearts? Prov.1:29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD.
We were created in God’s image and given the ability to choose what is right and true. It may take time and some turns here and there, but with God’s help, we can make righteous choices. Like anything in life, there is a learning curve. There are ups and downs but eventually, we will become familiar with what the Spirit of God is saying. We can learn how to unchoose a choice after we have received God’s wisdom and knowledge concerning the situation.
Unchoose a choice, changing your mind, repenting of your actions. No matter how you want to say it, we can bring our problems we created by our choices to God. We can ask God to help us overcome the effects these choices have brought in our life. The Lord is not bound by time, He can go back to where the bad choices were made and bring His healing forward to this present day.
The instruction in God’s word is simple. He said to choose life. If we would choose life in the first place, there will be no need to unchoose bad choices later on. Deut. 30:19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.
