Proverbs 30:32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.
Be careful what you think about because our thoughts will eventually show up. This can be a good thing or not. If we can think of it, it can be accomplished and created no matter how good or evil the thoughts are. Sometimes when an evil tragedy takes place, people ask how this evil act of violence could have happened. It happened because the thought was first conceived in the mind of a human being, then eventually made its way to the heart, and the evil came forth in violence. James 1:15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. The heart of man is deceptively horrible and our hearts need to be trained in the ways of God’s righteousness. Jer. 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? Goodness, or evil comes forth from our imagination, and the result is an evil act of horror or a blessed gift of deliverance.
We were created in God’s image with the creative ability to bring forth what we think of. God admonishes us to think and meditate on what brings life to ourselves and the lives of others. Phil. 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things. Why does the Lord want us to think about the best that a Godly life has to offer? Because you become what you think about. Prov. 23:7a For as he thinks within himself, so he is. The more we think along the ways of Christ’s righteousness the more we grow in the power of His righteousness.
Jesus said thinking about lustful actions with another person is fornication. Because the thoughts of imaginary actions are powerful enough to become tangible if we let them happen. Matt. 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. The thought world is real, and it does not take much visualizing before the person who is thinking about something begins to act upon the imagery that is seen in their heart. The Apostle Paul was wrestling with this dilemma when he expressed the nature of man’s heart and mind plus needing the supernatural ability to have control over the thoughts running wild within one’s life. Rom. 7:23 But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Paul sees the need to be rescued and delivered from this existence. Rom. 7:24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Good question, Paul.
If we want the outcome of our life to be different, then we will need to become a new and distinct creation. Since so much evil comes out of the heart, it stands to reason that a new heart is needed. This recreated heart can only happen through the regenerated born-again life that Jesus gives us through His sacrificial crucifixion and His righteousness. Christ the Saviour is the One who can make this miracle come about in the life of any person who wants it. I have heard some people say it is too late for them to be saved because they have rejected God their whole life. This is Satan’s biggest lie to keep people thinking terrible thoughts and confessing them. Prov. 30:32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth. As the Proverb says, “Put a hand on your mouth when you are about to talk stupid.” Reverse the trend by receiving God’s gift of salvation and confessing that Jesus Christ is Lord. Then Let the Lord change every part of your life so that you will have eternal life with God.
How many times have you thought of an idea or invention and shortly afterward you saw the very thing right in front of you? Exclamations of, “Hey I thought of doing that!” comes out of your mouth in surprised wonder. The difference is, that someone else carried the thought through to fruition. This is wonderful when it helps mankind but terrifying when it destroys the soul of society. When we bring our thoughts to the Lord and reason with Him, the results are holy and inspiring. Prov. 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and your thoughts will be established. Our thoughts will be established in the blessings of the Lord. How good is that?
Before the great flood, the thoughts of mankind cumulated to bring about the destruction of the world, because every thought was evil continually. Gen. 6:5 The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. At this time in our history, the whole world is weary and tired in its soul because of all the mayhem going on throughout civilization. Would this be because everyone is so quick to give everyone else a piece of their mind, regardless of whether they know what they are talking about or not? Are all these uncontrolled thoughts turning into a leviathanic-monster roaming the earth destroying righteous life? Only you know the monsters roaming around your heart and the choice is yours whether you will let them free upon the earth, or whether you will chain them up with the blood of Jesus, and let the Lord help you express thoughts of His peace, joy, and love.
It would be wise to remember that thoughts can come to life, and we need to look back to what the Proverb says, “If you have thought evil, lay your hand upon your mouth!” Don’t let the nonsense you are thinking about flow from your mouth, but rather, put the filter of God’s word on your thought process and speak in the righteousness of God’s peace. Amen!
