Genesis 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
George Carpenter said, “Monsters in movies are us, always us, one way or the other. They’re us with hats on. Monsters are us, the dangerous parts of us. The part that wants to destroy. The part of us that’s vicious and cruel.”
It does not take much to demonstrate that the state of humanity is in decline, decay, and escalating towards reprobation. What we need to understand is that this has always been the norm. The evil, unjust, and catastrophic events that are posted every minute of the day on every media platform might not have been available for viewing during the time Jesus walked the earth, but the people and governments in those days were just as monstrous as they are today. People cry out, “What is happening to the citizens of the world? Have they all gone insane? We need to bring back common sense and laws to make things right.” The irony is that the people who postulate these platitudes are often the ones fighting righteous changes.
What we need to do is obey the laws God has already set in place. We do not need more legislation; we need to listen to what God is saying to our hearts and follow His righteous instructions. There is no amount of legislation that can make people holy and want to follow Godly principles. No matter the political system or religious ‘ism’ chosen by man, history has demonstrated that humanity will always act cruelly when left to its base nature. Those who have become the leaders or the foxes in charge of the world’s populations and political movements are continually trying to limit the work of the church and the salvation of mankind. Luke 13:32 But Jesus replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘Look, I will keep driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach My goal.‘ Historically, when the church was the ruling government, there was always wickedness, wars, and corruption that victimized the citizens of the country it controlled. We cannot escape the monsters within until we slay that dragon with the righteousness of Christ and the cleansing blood of His sacrifice.
Jesus did not fret about who was in power, because He knew that maliciousness resided in the heart of all men. John 2:24 But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, because He knew all people, 25 and because He did not need anyone to testify about mankind, for He Himself knew what was in mankind. Jesus was there when the Godhead lamented that man’s heart was to do evil continually. Gen. 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. The Lord knew that the monsters in the world were us, and we needed a complete salvation that would tear down the evil heart of man, and this could only come through the merciful grace of God Himself. This was the mission Jesus was on, as He kept moving toward fulfilling the redemption of mankind from their state of sinfulness.
Jesus ministered during the times He lived in, and they were hard and difficult times. A fight or flight agitation was happening within everyone living in Jerusalem because they were under the cruel imperial laws of Rome. Whether out of fear or strategy, the Pharisees were trying to sow fear into the Lord by warning Jesus that Herod wanted to kill Him. Luke 13:31 In the same hour, certain Pharisees came near, saying to Him, “Go out and proceed from here, for Herod desires to kill You.” Whether it was a rumour or true that Herod wanted to kill Jesus, the Lord did what God the Father wanted Him to do. The Lord explained that we are in the world but not of it, and there are going to be troubles that we will encounter. Most of the time, the problems and troubles will be caused by our own choices.
The Lord was not concerned with all the political unrest that was talked about at the time. He was and still is more concerned about the state of one’s heart, where the real issues of life come from, and that includes all the monstrous things a heart can dream up. Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. If we would submit and receive the sacrifice of the Lord, then the peace of that transformation would show up in our daily lives as we minister the word of the Lord to those who are still wrestling with their monsters.
We cannot keep pointing at the politicians, billionaires, dictators, and corrupt officials, claiming that they alone are the monsters of society. We need to realize that everyone is adding to the helter-skelter that is going on. 2Tim. 4:3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. The polarization of world events is caused by each one of us because we do not submit our ideologies and conversations to the scrutiny of the Lord. We blast it out regardless of who it hurts. We have forgotten to be kind because that attribute does not suit the rage in the heart. We need Jesus to cleanse our hearts so that we can share our hearts cleanly.
We do not read within scripture whether Jesus, the Apostles, and the Fathers of faith talked much about politics. They all seem to say the same thing: that if we are law-abiding citizens, we are not to be afraid of the authorities, as we are under God’s direction and protection. Yes, there may be some real and terrible persecution because of our faith, but still, we are to concern ourselves with the will of our Heavenly Father and with the leading of the Holy Spirit, to bring about the kingdom of God here and now. If we work towards God’s vision of His kingdom, then the work of Leviathan that is trying to destroy man can be shattered and done away with. As long as we keep entertaining sin, then the monsters are us. The finished work of the cross has put the power to choose who we will serve in our hearts. Choose wisely.

“We have forgotten to be kind because that attribute does not suit the rage in the heart.”
