Stop The War

by May 20, 2016Devotional0 comments

Proverbs 20:18 Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

The red placard was big and bright with the words “Stop The War.” I thought to myself, “Which war? There are so many.”
The world is awash in wars, skirmishes, battles and conflicts. There are so many types of wars that the buzz word in some cases when land, sea, and air battles are involved, it is called, “theatre of war.” There is a war on drugs, gangs, terrorism, borders, waterways, ideologies, and a war for the souls of mankind. Wars will not be stopped until the warring within our souls is stopped, controlled or repented of.

Until there is an honest desire within our hearts for the success of our neighbours, workmates or man on the street – wars will not stop. When a territory or a radical religious idea is being fought over to the point of a full-blown war, then wars and conflicts will remain in full explosion until everyone is dead, or the sickening waste of it all is finally seen for what it is.
The word of God says that wars are going on because the war within our hearts is causing conflict. James 4:1 What causes conflicts and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you? This conflict is the result of the fallen human condition. As long as there are humans on the earth, war will be an option.
The battle within our souls is to be conquered and eventually to have victory over what it is that causes the unrest. These clashes within us will be defeated when we allow the power of the Holy Spirit to become the peacemaker in our lives. 2 Cor. 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.
Most people at war do not realize that they are fighting against an enemy that is trying to defeat, destroy and eradicate the human race. The word of God is clear that we are battling princely powers, demon influences and not humanity. Eph. 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
If we want to stop endless wars, then we will have to stop the enemy of our soul who has been promoting his own type of evil crusade through racism, bigotry, poverty, sickness and disease. When we become the neighbours we want to have, then we will begin to stop the war.
The elimination of war starts with the full capitulation of our own souls to the Lord Jesus. Someone has to surrender first. Christ surrendered to the cross so that we could surrender to Him and be victorious in a resurrection life as Jesus is. 1 John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
By surrendering to Christ the King of kings and the Lord of lords who conquered the cause of war by His blood which was spilled on the cross for us all, we can be assured of a true and honest victory because we are one with and in Christ. As we choose peace, war will diminish. As we choose life, abortion, murder and hatred will be seen for what it is.
When we choose the solution to any problem, then the result will be a positive change of righteousness. Deut. 30:19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.
Making God-like choices on a daily basis will bring about better results than just being against everything. When we put our energies into using the wisdom, guidance and spiritual common sense God gave us, then it will bring about whole and real solutions. We will have a forward looking vision rather than the feeling that empty rhetoric falling on deaf ears has on us. Prov. 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
As the Proverb says, “With good advice make war.” We are to fight the good fight of faith and with the Holy Spirit as our counselor directing our battle plan, we will win the war set before us because Jesus has overcome the world. John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
So, what can I do to stop the war? I must start with my own heart by extinguishing the war within myself by allowing the righteousness of Christ to have complete ownership of my soul. If that is what it takes, then so be it. Lord Jesus, I surrender all!
