Jeremiah 32:27 Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me?     

      I asked God to help me with a small thing this week and realized what I was asking was of small content and not that pressing compared to the wars going on. I wrongly said, “Never mind Lord, You have a war on your hands.” I was inadvertently limiting God by saying God had His hands full, and might not see my situation as worthy of attention compared to all the atrocities happening on earth. What an egotistic and deceptive thought that was. Who am I to determine what God could and could not handle? How can I, an eternal being, understand the capabilities of an infinite God? Luke 1:37 For with God nothing will be impossible.

      The enemy of our soul would like it if we only brought what we deemed as a hard request to God because that would eliminate more than half of our daily conversation with Him. That would also put us in a prideful state of being, and we would declare nonsense like – I can handle most things, I just need God once in a while to fill in. What arrogant pride that is. The reason we cannot change the default setting of our prideful hearts by ourselves is that we will only sacrifice our ego’s will to the point of our emotional and soulish pain tolerance. The moment it gets a bit too hot and painful, we begin to justify, rationalize, and pontificate our case to God’s face. Prov. 16:2 All a person’s ways seem right to him, but the LORD weighs motives. However, if we submit to the Holy Spirit’s corrections and allow Him to remove our hidden pride and the subsequent iniquities that come from pride, then the Holy Spirit will find a way to break through our carnal reasoning. Once the Holy Spirit cleans up our hearts we can move forward in the maturity of Christ our Lord. 

      The enemy of our soul wants us to see ourselves as insignificant people with small isues, small content or just see ourselves as small potatoes as the saying goes. Satan will happily point out that we are wasting God’s time by bringing our little problems to Him because He is too busy helping those who are so much more deserving of His attention than we are. What a bald-faced liar the devil is. John 8:44b When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. What amazes me, is how easily we fall for this lie. Our egos are so high-tuned that we can unwittingly put off our requests to God because the flesh starts to agree with the falsehood, and our self-righteousness steps in thinking we are being holy because we are not bothering God. 

      What a deception. So many blood-washed Saints of the Lord have fallen for this insanity. Oh, I can understand brother so and so needing God because he has a crippled child. I can see why our sister in Christ is asking God for help because she has a terminal disease. I understand why that whole family needs a miracle because they lost everything in a disaster. What a load of demonic rhetoric. Standing there with a martyr complex in the faith while inwardly preening that you don’t have a major problem to bring to God in prayer. How nice to be so sure of your eternal state. 

      No wonder God tells us to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God so that He might raise us to see and understand an honest view of our hearts. 1Pet. 5:6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, so that in due time He may exalt you. 7 having cast all your anxiety upon Him, because with Him there is care about you. By the way, taking part in self-righteousness and prideful self-flagellation are forms of anxiety disorder. Hand that mess over to God before it floors you and you cannot get up. 

      The very fact that God is listening to our meditation and has often answered prayers that we only thought of, clearly shows us that our Heavenly Father is interested in us and is taking care of every aspect of our lives. We can all attest to the truth of God answering a prayer we took a millisecond to think of. Psalm 5:1 Give ear to my words, O Yahweh, consider my meditation. For me to consider my situation as having small content and not worth bothering God about, is an indictment against my faith and the work of the cross that all of salvation in Christ is based upon. If we are not daily bringing our prayers to the throne of grace, then our hubristic egos will bring us right back to a place where we are trying to defend our self-righteousness. Let us remember that only Jesus can wash away every sin, including pride and all its disguises. Only Jesus can make us whole and holy acceptable to our Heavenly Father. May God have mercy on us all.

  2. Thank you Norm for this timely word. I have been seeing ‘maturity’ for the past year or so now and have been calling out to the LORD for maturity in my life. This truly can only be found through the power of the blood of Jesus.
