Simultaneous Buckling

by Oct 7, 2016Devotional2 comments

Proverbs 19:3 People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the LORD.

Mimi McKewan said, “There is an expiration date for sin before it is exposed.”
Simultaneous buckling was an illustration an engineer used to explain what had happened to a three-storey building that had collapsed because the foundations were poorly maintained.

I thought of some Christians who have fallen and utterly destroyed their lives because of simultaneous buckling so to speak. They had not maintained the fundamental foundations of their faith. The deception of sin and the rot of iniquity had crept into their souls where the foundations of faith are built upon.
They forgot who they were in Christ and who Christ was in themselves. Eph. 2:19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. The old hymn says it this way: “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.”
When we remove Christ from the throne of our heart, we begin to expose the weakness within our foundations. Psalm 11:3 When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do? When we become only talkers of religion and its many facets and forget to be a doer of what the word of God says, we will become self-deceived. James 1:22 Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves.

An interesting point about self-deception is that the devil no longer has to trick, deceive, or coerce us into anything wrong or evil because we get to a point where we are tricking ourselves into falling apart. It is like a domino affect of failure where the pressure and guilt of one sin leads to another pressure and the building cannot stand when the storms of life come along and destroy the work and worker. Matt. 7:24 Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

When a person’s faith collapses because he or she has chosen to participate repetitively in sin, the result can be catastrophic because the anger within the sinner may be directed at God. Prov. 19:3 People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the LORD. If you have fallen in an area of life and you can still blush, be thankful and repent. If sin has brought you to a place where the activity is no longer fun so to speak and your heart is saying go home to the Father of heaven, be thankful that repentance is being granted.
If you are tired of a false life and hypocrisy has become your middle name, turn back to your Lord and Savior and get radically turned around toward righteousness and Godliness in Christ. Don’t wait for a full implosion of your life where you have no conscience to take responsibility for your actions and then blame it all on God and the church.
You may have fallen but know the love of God is never in doubt toward you. You are God’s number one love and He will bring you back into relationship. However, you have to come in the sincerity of heart and repentance. There is grace for you. Jer. 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
We live in times of uncertainty and confusing messages on an hourly basis. The pressures Christians feel today seem like we are being squeezed to death with temptations upon temptations. The reality is from the day Adam and Eve were tempted and fell to this day, sin has always been a battle for every person’s heart who ever lived.
The devil has no new strategies, just a lot of the old ones repackaged for our times.
As Christians, we have to know we have the ability and power in Christ to overcome anything the devil throws at us. We can and we will overcome if Christ is on the throne of our heart. 1 Cor. 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it. May God keep us all from falling. In Jesus name.
