Selah: Think On That

by Nov 12, 2013Devotional1 comment

Proverbs 28:20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that makes haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

      Selah: Think on that Proverb.
As I have said in the past, “Watch out for get-rich-quick-schemes, because the only one to get rich quick is the person with the scheme.” Sometimes it is the simple truths of God’s word that are the most profound.

Faithfulness to God will bring blessing; faithfulness to getting rich fast will only bring grief, because the focus of the person’s heart becomes an obsession on the riches themselves and not the one who blesses us with richness. Matt. 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Thomas Aquinas said. “The thing that we love tells us what we are.”
The majority of all dissatisfaction in our lives is because there is something we want this very minute and cannot have it. James 4:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. At this point, we start thinking that we have been faithful enough toward God and He should deliver this thing we want right now.
We become angry with God because we feel He owes us. We end up corrupting our relationship with unnecessary jealousy and grief. Thank God in that moment the LORD still loves us and keeps guiding us through the mess of our own making. Isa. 30:31 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
As the Proverb says, “A faithful man shall abound with blessing. Oh ya, you say! What’s in it for me? Well, putting aside our eternal salvation, (if that is even possible) there are these blessings. Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD. Psalm 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.
Psalm 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgives all thine iniquities; who heals all thy diseases; 4 Who redeems thy life from destruction; who crowns thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies. Is that not worth being grateful for? Is that not worth our faithfulness toward God who loves us with a pure heart?
As we mature in the word of God and grow in the love and power of the Holy Spirit, we can count on the faithfulness of our God toward us. Num. 23:19 God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?
The Lord helps us to be faithful through the Holy Spirit. We have the best of God’s intentions toward us. Jer. 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end

With all this Godly support, let us be faithful to Him who first loved us. Job 5:8a Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Father, in Jesus name we ask that you continually quicken our hearts to being faithful toward you and all those whom you love. Give us your strength, Lord, that we may be found faithful on that day of your coming. Amen.
