Put Your House In Order

Proverbs 24:3 By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established.

Isa. 38:1 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”

We are all going to face the day when we will leave this life as we know it. Hopefully, we will be at peace within our own hearts and our house is in the order in the way God wants it to be. If we are in Christ, we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. 1 Cor. 3:16 Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? Making sure our soul is in order is what God the Father did for us through Jesus our Lord. All we have to do is walk it out by faith.
The story of Hezekiah is often taught as a faith lesson because upon hearing the news of his coming death, Hezekiah prays to God and asks for more time on this earth. God grants him another fifteen years of life. I wonder if he put off getting his house in order? I personally would not want to know that fifteen years from today I would be dying. That wormy little thought itching away in my subconscious would bug me – I am sure. I would rather live knowing my heart, soul, and body is in order today; therefore, living with the peace of God until I go.
It is wisdom in life to have our affairs written up in legal wills, plus key documents stored away in safety deposit boxes or secure places. All the passwords your spouse or surviving family members will need to access your communication devices and login codes should be available to them when you pass on. Just for the sake of clearing out all the digital stuff will help ease the surviving members to move on. They will also need to get their remaining lives put in order. This is wisdom for the day we are living in.
Having our own soul and life affairs in order is important where God is concerned. Our heart’s default setting should be from a position of sonship in God. 2 Cor. 6:18 I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters,” declares the Lord Almighty. We should not be living on the edge of needing constant warnings from God to get our house in order. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit today and we are living from that position to its fullest.
Free will and the love of God compels us to keep walking clean and forthright with God and not living on the edge of shallow worldliness, thinking we can get away with living outside of the will of God. This is immaturity in the faith and will keep us in a place where we never grow up. If we are living in a place where we constantly need baby’s milk, then our growth will be stunted. Heb. 5:13 For every one that uses milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Putting our house in order is a good thing, and, if God is pointing something out that must be fixed, replaced, or done away with – then do it. Maybe a clean sweep is needed because you have been hoarding all the rubbish throughout your life and there is no room for God to move into your heart. It might be that a complete teardown and restart is needed – then do it. Phil. 3:8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. God knows how to heal broken, lost, and fearful hearts.
Prov. 24:3 By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established. Let us grow into the relationship God has ordained for us by wisdom and understanding through Christ. We are here on earth for a short time on the scale of eternity. So let us build a house within our hearts where God lives and reigns, helping us keep our lives full of the joy, peace, and love of Lord, forever and ever, amen.

Proverbs 6:16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to Him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a lying witness who gives false...

Anger Is Expensive

Proverbs 16:32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.         In the early 1980s, while attending Bible college and living in Australia, I ministered in prisons for a few years. A common regret among...

The Low Hum Of Dread

Christianism Falls Short
