Job 42:3 You asked, ‘Who is this that questions My wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I, and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me.
This may shock some readers, but your opinion is not that important. As a matter of fact, your opinion can get you into trouble, especially when explaining the righteousness of God as a take it or leave it option. I am well aware that when I write articles on the biblical truths that I glean within my heart, the accuracy of the said truths need to be in line with God’s context of scripture. We need to remember that the Gospel is not about us; it is about God’s covenant of love for mankind, and our need to align our opinion with God’s. We are a nation of blabbermouths with multiple opinions on every subject, even the ones we have no clue about. In some cases, our thoughts on God make no Godly sense at all. How true the scripture describes the fools who declare nonsense when they say, “There is no God.” Psalm 14:1 Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!
Job and his friends were full of opinions, and those opinions almost destroyed their lives. God said to Job’s friends that they were dead wrong (pun intended) and Job’s prayers would save them from their dangerous and uninformed opinions. Job 42:7 After the LORD had spoken these words to Job, He said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you and your two friends. For you have not spoken about Me accurately, as My servant Job has. 8 So now, take seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. Then My servant Job will pray for you, for I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken accurately about Me, as My servant Job has.”
We need to be willing to be taught by God and to change our direction in life when God challenges our opinions and gives us new information to act on and believe in. God asks us to forgive the unforgivable events in our lives and forgive those who caused them by using God’s standard of forgiveness. However, we stop the healing process that God has for us by forgiving under our terms, with our opinion of what we deem the forgiveness to be. God recommends that we not forsake the gathering of ourselves with the Saints in fellowship, but we undermine His directive with our own interpretation of the scriptures, and then wonder why peace is an elusive blessing in our lives. This willful ignorance or choosing to be in a state of amathia just so we can find wiggle room around the word of God, by not accepting God’s evidence, is a form of willful heresy. Mal. 3:14 You have said, ‘It is vain to serve God. What is the profit of our keeping his charge or of walking as in mourning before the LORD of hosts?
Most people have an oversupply of opinions. That is fine as long as we keep the majority of our opinions to ourselves. However, many feel they have the right to voice these untamed thoughts to anyone at any time, regardless of the topic. I’m not sure of the reason for this compulsion. Why would someone want to voice the constant chatter in their mind? Is there a need to express the loud chatter because people realize that they are one in eight billion people on earth, and want to be acknowledged as alive and present? This is a possible theory because we were created to be heard. Psalm 5:1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. 2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. The Psalmist is saying what many feel: “Someone, please hear me. I exist, and I need to be heard, and doesn’t my opinion count for something?” Yes, our opinion counts for something if the information expressed is valid for the situation. Maybe this is why the Lord asks us to be still and know that He is God, so that we hear Him when He says, “This is the way”. Isa. 30:21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
The opinions of the elders of Israel were to bring the ark of the covenant of God into battle with them, then they would surely win the battles and eventually the war. The logic seemed sound to the people, but these plans were only voiced opinions. 1Sam. 4:3 When the people came into the camp, the elders of Israel said, “Why has the LORD defeated us today before the Philistines? Let’s take the ark of the covenant of the LORD from Shiloh, so that He may come among us and save us from the power of our enemies.” Israel was about to find out that they would be ruined by their opinions of taking God for granted. 1Sam. 4:10 And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen. 11a And the ark of God was taken. Not only did the men find themselves in ruins, but they lost the Ark as well. Not a good day to have expressed unsubstantiated thoughts and beliefs.
Talk is cheap, and there is a lot of cheap talk going on around us all day long. The Word of God instructs us to commit our way unto the Lord so that our thoughts can be established. Prov. 16:3 Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established. We need our thoughts to be clear and established in truth. False opinions will cause people to run off at the mouth with expressions such as: the world is flat, all vaccines are useless, aliens are running our school boards, and Satan does not exist. All this nonsense is muddying the waters of life. Jesus is the truth, and He will guide us into all truth if we let Him. Over the last six years, how many people have fallen apart and lost hope because they bought into the ruinous opinions of people who were repeating clickbait they thought to be credible? Let us adjust our opinions to that of the Lord’s and live the truth of His word. We do not need to add to His word nor take away from it. The word of God is alive and will give us the resources to live in truth and in peace. Let the opinionated blab on, and let us pray the blessing of the Lord that belongs to us by faith. Prov. 10:22 The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.
