My Ugly Self

Proverbs 30:3 I have not mastered human wisdom, nor do I know the Holy One.

Genesis 6:5 The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. This verse makes me feel so sorry for God. My heart aches when I read that the depravity of the human condition can become so corrupt that the only thing coming out of all humanity twenty-four-seven is evil continually. Eph. 4:19 They became callous and gave themselves over to promiscuity for the practice of every kind of impurity with a desire for more and more. No wonder God destroyed the human population with a worldwide flood.
Why are we so conniving and insistent on walking the knife’s edge of God’s laws? We trade our eternal gifts for ephemeral satisfaction and wonder why there is no sense of fulfilment in life. I had asked God why I kept arguing with Him on a particular thing He was pointing out in my life that He wanted to change. He said, “You have no humility in that area.” Ouch! Prov. 30:3 I have not mastered human wisdom, nor do I know the Holy One. Yes, I had to repent of my soulish ugliness and ask for His grace in the area God was working on.
How have we become so crass and vulgar as a so-called civilized society? The events in this first half-year of 2020 have shown us who we really are as a nation and people. Many have lost their sense of awe toward God and traded their humility for pride and arrogance. Slander, judgment, and false accusations have become mainstream in everyday conversations. The lack of humility has caused us to forget that we will be judged with the exact same measuring-stick we use on others. Matt. 7:2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of the people’s insistence on living their own selfish lives. The lack of humility was the real sin and guilt of Sodom and Gomorrah that led to their unacceptable lifestyle in God’s eyes. Eze 16:49 Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy. 50 They were proud and stubborn and did the things that I hate, so I destroyed them, as you well know.
We are who we are within our soul, and who we are will eventually come out. A family member may ask, “What is wrong with uncle Bill these days, he seems so mean and hateful?” The answer is simple. There is nothing wrong with uncle Bill. He has always been that way, but now that he is old, he cannot hide it anymore. We become ugly when we stop living our Christian lives in honest humility. Prov. 22:4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.
Whenever great ministers of faith fall into sin and are exposed, whether it is through adultery, embezzlement, or outrageous behavior that brings them down, it is always the fact that they put their humility aside and started believing their own press-releases and became deceived. They started believing they have a special anointing outside of God’s grace and became carnally minded causing them to make hubris decisions. They then became the pariahs and a laughing stock in the world. Thank God there is repentance available to them if they wake up to themselves.
Saints, we need to press into the grace that was given to us through Jesus Christ to live and flourish as the Lord’s chosen. Without God’s grace running through our veins, we cannot live according to God’s precepts. It has been proven throughout the history of the human race that man cannot live righteously by using his own will and choices. We need a God-given saviour to help us walk in the righteousness that is accepted by God Himself. Only the work of the cross is the acceptable sacrifice.
The world is in an uproar right now, and we do not have to join in the rampant mayhem. We who are in Christ need to walk in the ordinances and directions that the Holy Spirit is leading us toward. With humility in our hearts and genuine awe for God, we should bring the needs of this fractured world to Him in prayer and remain strong in the faith Christ gave us through His sacrifice. Of ourselves, we can do nothing, but in Christ, all things are possible.
Therefore, as we see the mess the world is in let us look at the beauty and power of the Lord’s holiness that lives within our soul. After all, God did give us life and beauty for our ashes. Because of that life, we can live according to what God has purposed within us. Through humility and His grace, put aside the ugliness of heart, and become the blessing of the Lord. Amen!

Spiritually Empty

Proverbs 31:26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.              Who are the ones living their spiritual lives on empty? I've noticed that those who break God's laws regularly tend to fall apart when times go bad. They just seem...
