2 Corinthians 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
I am like everyone else in the body of Christ. I have been cleansed by the soul-saving sacrifice of Jesus Christ and given His grace through His gift of righteousness. My Heavenly Father has also supplied me, as He has everyone in His kingdom, with a toolbox full of enhanced tools that we can use to help build His realm and tear down the structures of darkness. The tools that the Lord has made available to us can be used to heal the brokenhearted, set free those who have become captives by the vices of this world, and help all mankind be reconciled with each other and God because this is the will of God. 2Cor. 5:18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. The key is that all the work we do is through and because of what Jesus has done for us.
Our tools are diversified and accurately crafted to fulfill the assignment God has given us within His kingdom. Our ministry tools can destroy the works and hostility the kingdom of darkness uses against God’s children. We have been given the blood of Jesus and His Word to strengthen our hearts and our resolve in the faith so that we are courageous when overcoming the plans Satan has developed against our lives. Rev. 12:11 And they have overcome him by reason of the blood of the Lamb, and by reason of the word of their testimony; and they have not loved their life unto death. We are encouraged by God to develop our faith and use the authority we have been given in Christ, to pull down the strongholds that the enemy of our souls has crafted against us. We are to do this while wearing the armour of God so that we can stand against the tricks of the enemy. The Lord has also given us the Holy Spirit to take care of ourselves and each other’s needs in God’s Kingdom where we are rightful citizens.
Similarly, to owning the tools in our toolbox to fix what needs to be repaired around the house, yard, car, and so on, we have tools that work in the kingdom of God. The Lord’s anointing, truth, righteousness, and grace will help us get the job done that we have been created to fulfill. These heavenly and holy tools are available to us as we prayerfully use them. We are yoked to the Lord Jesus and there is nothing we cannot accomplish if we are in step with the Lord. The key is learning to stay in step with His plan and His guidance, then the tools in our heavenly toolbox work and fit the job well.
Someone might say, “I do not know how to use any tools, I can’t even swing a hammer without hurting myself or anyone within fifty yards of me.” This may be the facts at this time, but the truth is, you can learn how to swing that hammer to become productive and a skilled user. We need to be willing to learn how to use what God has given us and not judge what the Lord has put within our hands to do His work. This was God’s question when He asked Moses, “What is in your hand?” Ex. 4:2 Then the LORD asked him, “What is that in your hand?” “A shepherd’s staff,” Moses replied. The conversation gets intense at this point because, with that staff, that Moses was familiar with, God says that Moses will deliver a nation out of captivity. Ex. 4:17 And take your shepherd’s staff with you, and use it to perform the miraculous signs I have shown you. How had something that Moses used every day become the tool to deliver a nation? Only God can work the miracle needed with what we have at the moment.
Moses became skilled at using the tool God gave him. That rod was used to lead the nation, part the waters of the Red Sea, win the war against the Amalekites, and bring water out of a rock to quench the thirst of man and beast. If God says to you, “What is in your hand or what is in your house,” do not shy away or be embarrassed from answering with the little that might be there. 2Kings 4:2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” Lift your head to your Lord and say, “All I have is a little jar,” and see what God can do with it.
Moses honed his skills with the rod and delivered a nation. The widow became a connoisseur of oil and saved her family. David was made king because he swung a rock-loaded sling and hit the mark that would change history. The Apostles changed the world because they were filled with the Holy Spirit. What have you looked upon in your toolbox that you have treated as not that valuable? In my life, I have seen the Lord turn my illiteracy into a tool of writing that helps people reason and find comfort in the Word of God. We all need to become better skilled with the tools available to us that are in our toolbox for the working and building of the Kingdom in which God has placed us.
We cannot discount what God has given us by comparing it with others and the tools that others have learned to use efficiently. We all need to work in His Kingdom and use what we have so that when we become skilled at using a particular tool, the Lord gives us another one to learn how to use for His purposes in this life. May we all become workmen not ashamed of what we have and who we are in Christ. 2Tim. 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
