Psalm 78:2 I will declare wise sayings; 3 things we have heard and known and that our ancestors have passed down to us. 4 We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.
Our responsibility to God is to ensure that we share with our children who God is and to teach the next generation, as they mature, all that we know to be true concerning God Almighty. God said the reason He had chosen to make a covenant with Abraham was that God knew Abraham would teach his children about who God is. Abraham was also to teach his children the covenant the Lord had made with mankind.. Gen. 18:19 For I have chosen him, so that he will command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, in order that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what He has promised. Whether our children accept the reality of God is God’s responsibility. Our responsibility is to live our lives in Christ and let God lead us throughout our lives.
It is a strong truth that the moment we begin to have an understanding of God, we also have an immediate responsibility to act on the anointed illumination we have received. God has introduced Himself to everyone in many ways. Titus 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. There is a deep-seated understanding within our beings that God exists, even though many do not know what to call Him; there is an instinctive awareness that God is present and a recognition that we bear a certain responsibility for the lives He gave us. Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. God has put eternity in our hearts, and there is no getting away from His existence, even if a person declares themselves to be an atheist. Eccl. 3:11a He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart.
Some people take on too much responsibility that has no value of heart, while others avoid any responsibility, even for themselves. Both of these approaches are sinful. God does not want us to carry responsibilities that cause our shoulders to be knotted. He wants us to be responsible for what He has asked of us, and to do it, with the strength He gives us through His Holy Spirit. Perhaps the expression ‘their soul is tied up in knots’ means they have taken on too much useless responsibility, and it is now affecting their health. As I have already mentioned, we are responsible for teaching our children about God and for living well with humanity. Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
I am responsible for handing my life’s baggage and disappointments over to the Lord so that I may find my true identity in Christ. 1Cor. 6:20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. This will be a difficult task for many who have found their identity in the false narrative and drama they have created, so that others will accept them. Handing over our self-made identity and self-accumulated anxieties, and suffering to the Lord, requires personal will because this will involve humility that our egos will not relinquish easily. 1Pet. 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. My responsibility is to accept the gift of salvation and become who God created me to be in His infinite plan.
What many do not realize is that if we do not become who God created us to be and learn to depend on His Word of grace and salvation plan, then how will our children see the truth of who we are? We cannot give lip service to talking about God and not live what God has asked of us. We cannot expect our neighbours to respect our God-given values if we have no love or respect for our fellow man. God’s command of first loving God with all our hearts, then loving our neighbours, is not a suggestion; it is a law. Matt. 22:39 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” How can we fulfill the Word of instruction that Micah wrote concerning our fellow man if we do not take responsibility for the mandate God has given us?
My responsibility is what God says my responsibility is. It is not an interpretation of what I want to accept and leave out of God’s instruction. I must mature in my relationship with God the Father through God the Son. I will take what God has sown in my heart, and share it with my children and those whom God puts in my path to father. I am to be the neighbour I want to have and honour what God has done in my heart so that I can see clearly to sow His love in the hearts of others. My responsibility is to do what I have the understanding to do in the fullness of the Godhead who is at work within me. I’m not responsible for the anxiety of the world, I’m only responsible for being ready to hand out the cure for the anxiety the world insists in living in. I am responsible for saying what God has asked me to say, and not to fear what people think of me. Eze. 2:6 And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live among scorpions. Do not be afraid of what they say or be terrified by them, though they are a rebellious people. 7 You must speak my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious. 8a But you, son of man, listen to what I say to you.
There are no guarantees that our children or neighbours will listen to us or take the Word of deliverance that God the Father has asked us to share. All the family members and people whom we come across in life are God’s responsibility to get His Word through to their hearts. Sometimes we are the hand extended that God uses to reach their inner man, but the responsibility is God’s. We are to take care of our own relationship and be ready to be called upon for kingdom use. May we do His work with the integrity He has given us through faith in His love.
