Lock Stock And Barrel

Proverbs 31:9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

When we use the expression, “Lock, stock, and barrel,” we are referring to the ownership of the whole thing or the whole enterprise. Isn’t it wonderful that Jesus paid for our souls in full? He paid for us lock, stock, and barrel when He paid for our whole lives with His own life. We have been bought by the Lord, through His life-giving sacrifice that was accepted by God the Father. 1 Cor. 6:20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. When we accepted Jesus as our Lord, we gave Him ownership and authority of ourselves for His eternal plan and our eternal purpose.
After man had fallen because of sin, Satan went on a rampage looking for souls to manipulate and destroy. 1 Pet. 5:8 Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. Fortunately for us, God had put into motion a salvation plan that would take us out of the enemy’s camp and restore us to our rightful place with the Lord. God had promised that someone would come and crush the devil’s authority, which he had usurped by deceiving man into sinning against God. Gen. 3:15b He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel. This mystery was hidden in Christ. God had a plan to get us back lock, stock, and barrel.
There truly is no peace for the wicked. Isa. 57:21 There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.” Until the resurrection of Christ, the devil spent so much of his time looking for the promised savior. Somehow or someway, Satan wanted to spoil the coming of the redeemer. The devil was always looking over his shoulder for the prophetic promise. Job 1:7 “Where have you come from?” the LORD asked Satan. Satan answered the LORD, “I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on.” I think this might be one of the reasons why the devil had taken notice of Job. He had seen first hand that Job was protected with a hedge from God. The devil has no revelation knowledge, therefore, his thoughts might have been, “Is this the man who will crush my head?” Subsequently, Satan went after Job with an aggressive hatred.
Until the day John the Baptizer proclaimed and spoke these words over Jesus, “Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world,” Satan, had no clue who he was looking for. Little did the devil know that God’s redemption plan for mankind was to save us from eternal death. God’s plan was also designed to destroy the works of the devil forever. Jesus had to claim us for Himself and plead our cause for our eternity. Therefore, Jesus died for our souls and got us back lock, stock, and barrel. Prov. 31:9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
The best part about being owned by God is that we too have ownership in all that God has for us through Christ. Those who are in Christ are heirs of what Jesus has. John 17:22 I have given them the glory you have given me, so that they may be one as we are one. 23 I am in them and you are in me, so that they may be made completely one, that the world may know you have sent me and have loved them as you have loved me. To be loved by God as equally as God Loves Jesus is a concept so hard to grasp, but none the less, it is true. Praise the Lord! Count me in!
The Apostle Paul said that everything he personally owned was rubbish compared to being owned by Christ. Phil. 3:8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ. When we give ourselves fully to Jesus, we become lovingly owned by our heavenly Father. There is nothing better than being loved by God lock, stock, and barrel. There is nothing missing in God’s love. It is fully given to us and ours to receive freely. What an amazing Lord we serve. We are entirely His through faith in Christ. Amen.
