Daniel 5:5 In the same hour, the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 6 Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosened and his knees knocked against each other.
A large part of North Americans have forgotten how to live, love, and laugh. Everything is so intense that many people are looking over their shoulders as they go about their daily routines. They feel like things are sketchy and that phantom shadows are following them, but they cannot put their finger on the source of the stress that is agitating their spirits. As the nihilists are rambling on that there is no meaning to life, and the doomsdayers are shouting that the sky is falling, we now have the Christian Nationalists screaming that Christ is returning next Tuesday; no one knows what to think. Like King Belshazzar, people’s knees are knocking together in confused fright. Dan. 5:6 Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosened and his knees knocked against each other. The unsettling feeling of despair is weighing on people’s psyches like a stretched membrane, suffocating the souls of men.
The Word of the Lord says that perfect love casts out fear, and that a merry heart is like a medicine. The Word goes on to say that living in the wisdom of God will bring our hearts peace and health. 3John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. When did we exchange the blessed gifts of God for the anxious fright of the world? The first thing that is ever said when the Lord or an angelic being appears before man is to fear not (don’t be frightened) because the message from heaven is always filled with the strength of God’s love. Loving the Lord and one another is what God asks of us, but when we allow fearfulness into our hearts, loving anyone becomes a difficult task. 1John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. Ahh, the question becomes – where does the torment come from? Torment is of the enemy and is inspired by hell, and love is of God.
The Word of the Lord admonishes us to rejoice in the Lord and to keep looking for the joy of life as much as possible. Phil. 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I will say, rejoice! The word says that a merry heart does a man good, and acts like a medicine for the whole man. Prov. 17:22 A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones. No wonder the enemy of our lives wants us miserable, because a broken spirit dries up the very marrow of life that is in our bones. If Satan can influence us to stop loving, living, and laughing, then he can control the narrative of our lives. He wants us to walk around in hopelessness so that we put no effort into living a strong life for the Lord, family, and our well-being. Prov. 24:30 I went by the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding; 31 And there it was, all overgrown with thorns; Its surface was covered with nettles; Its stone wall was broken down. The enemy wants us to live a lazy faith and give a half-hearted effort to following God.
In a world full of noise, distractions and nonsense, how do we start living rather than just existing and coping from day to day? Jesus said He was the way, the truth, and the life. If we are to live our lives in His life, shouldn’t we have a sense of His righteous strength and peaceful living? Where do all the anxieties and depression come from if we are walking in Christ’s life? What are we missing if we cannot find in our Saviour the ability to love, the desire to live, and the natural expression of joyous laughter? What has replaced God’s influence in our hearts that has dulled the basics of God’s gift for living on earth? Hag. 1:9 You expected much, but then it amounted to little. When you brought the harvest to your house, I ruined it. Why? This is the declaration of the LORD of Armies. Because my house still lies in ruins, while each of you is busy with his own house.
Have we stopped seeking God first and put Him aside until we are in a jam? Matt. 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Some of the things that will be added to us when we seek God first will be the honest ability to live in Christ, love freely and laugh wholeheartedly without the fear and guilt of the world. However, if one is entertaining sin, as King Belshazzar was, then maybe you have caused some writing on the wall in your life that needs repenting of. Dan. 5:5 In the same hour, the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. As the words of MENE, MENE, TEKEL, and PARSIN were scratched into the wall and declared that King Belshazzar’s soul had been weighed by God and found in need of repentance, so we may have the same situation, causing us to find it hard to live, love, and laugh in genuineness of heart.
If the joy, peace, and laughter of life have left our lives, then through Christ, we can return to the healing blessings these gifts once gave us. We will need to submit to the graceful hand of God by having the cleansing blood of the Lord wash us clean. I believe that true repentance frees our hearts to give ourselves to living, loving, and laughing in the love of God. These simple acts will bring healing to our eternal beings. What an amazing grace we have been given through Christ our Lord. Thank you, Father, for helping us find the finer things in life.
An encouraging word!
Thank you😊
