2Kings 6:16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Our Heavenly Father knows how to show up when we are in need. He can change the circumstances of a terrible situation in a millisecond. The Lord knows how to show up and make a difference. When Jesus went to an event or encountered lives who needed a miraculous intervention, changes came about because Jesus was there and He had shown up in the power of God. Jesus came to the tomb where Lazarus was lying dead and wrapped in grave cloth while the family members were grieving the pain of loss. Even though Lazarus had been dead for four days Jesus showed up on time to make a difference in the lives of those at the gravesite. John 11:43 After Jesus had said this, He called out in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” What a miraculous turn of events, from death to life, from being a stench to a sweet savour blessing to all. When God does something on our behalf it is done right and in full measure, nothing lacking.
Job was a man who showed up for those who needed help. Job 4:3 Indeed, you have instructed many and have strengthened weak hands. 4 Your words have steadied the one who was stumbling and braced the knees that were buckling. Job knew how to make a difference in someone’s life and take care of the situation that needed attending to as he encountered the problem. Job 29:12 For I rescued the poor man who cried out for help, and the fatherless child who had no one to support him. Job did not wait for a committee to approve what he saw needing attention, he did what needed doing. Job did what the proverb asks us all to do: to be a voice and a helper to the voiceless. Prov. 31:8 Open your mouth for the mute, For the rights of all who are unfortunate and defenceless; 9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, And administer justice for the afflicted and needy.
There is a lack of decision-making ability in society these days. Many stop to take pictures and record the problem, the skirmish, or the devastation taking place in front of their mobile devices, but not many are stepping forward to help fix the problem or assist practically. Some are afraid to step forward because they might get sued for something that goes wrong while trying to help someone in danger. Many just do not know what to do, and others don’t care as they feel they have enough problems of their own. Knowing how to show up in someone’s life has become harder to do because the issues of life have become so diverse and confusing. Imagine, lending a hand has become confusing and something that is no longer a natural occurrence.
This was not the case when Abram heard that his nephew Lot had been taken captive. Abram armed his men showed up and took care of the problem. Gen 14:14 When Abram heard that his nephew Lot had been captured, he armed and led out his trained men, born in his own house, numbering three hundred and eighteen, and went in pursuit as far north as Dan. Nothing is stopping us from praying for any problem that is big or small that we come across on our daily walk. One of the names of God is The Lord of the Breakthrough. 2Sam. 5:20 So David came to Baal-perazim, and he defeated them there, and said, “The LORD has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.” So he named that place Baal-perazim master of breakthroughs. Maybe we do not know what to do in a particular situation, however, we can pray and ask the Lord of Glory to show up for the people in need of deliverance and break through the mess that has surrounded them.
We can ask God to bring about the help a person needs and ask Him to show us how we can help if need be. It only takes spiritual will in the same way it takes political will to get things done that bring better living conditions for the citizens of a country or town. There is no room for an attitude of languor in the Christian walk. We are all called to the ministry of reconciliation. 2Cor. 5:18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s trespasses against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. The Lord admonishes us to be reconciled to God and one another. The first step in being a blessing to those in your life is to be reconciled to God. How can we show up for a difficult situation if we are not faithful to show up for the small and attainable things God asks of us?
Knowing how to be available as one of God’s family members takes practice and willpower on our behalf. We need to be intentional, available, and malleable to the will of God as we live our lives in Christ and bring His peace into this world. The closer we get to knowing the will of God the clearer understanding we will have when we hear God speak to our hearts about any problematic situation we may come across. If we do not know what to do, ask God what to do, and if you hear the answer, act on it. If you do not hear God say anything to your spirit or conscience, wait on the Lord until your heart and mind are at peace whether you are the one to help. You may not be the one God wants to use for the situation. This might be hard for some to hear, but God does have other people He has saved in His kingdom who can do as good a job as you can. This is why knowing how to show up is a God-given skill that we practice throughout our lives.
Jesus, Abraham, Job, and many others in the Bible knew how to show up, be accountable, and be full of faith for the problem at hand because they all had a relationship with God the Father. Jesus said, “I only do what I hear my Father tell me.” John 5:30 I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will. Let us enter into a deeper relationship with our God and learn how to show up on God’s timetable and within His ability so that God’s will be done on earth as it is done in heaven.

The Lord of the Breakthrough…that is amazing. Great stuff to hold onto, put into practice, and share with others, Norm. Thank you.
