It’s Assurance, Not Insurance

Proverbs 15:25 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

We live in an over-legislated land and country. “There ought to be a law,” someone says, and in no time there is. Soon, we will have to wear a helmet to walk down the sidewalk because someone somewhere will fall down and crack their skull. I hope not, on both counts!
In the same way, we cannot legislate holiness, we cannot legislate a risk-free life. Go ahead and buy some insurance to take care of the needs of family and friends. Continue to look for ways to minimize the risk of maiming and crippling one’s self in a workplace or a home environment, as this is wisdom.
However, when it comes to our souls It is a blessed assurance of real life and not an insurance that nothing will ever go wrong. Acts 17:31 Because He hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom He hath ordained; whereof He hath given assurance unto all men, in that He hath raised him from the dead.
A no-risk life is not possible. As my friend Scott says, “We only have to look to God the Father to see the biggest risk ever taken and that was the creation of man.” With full assurance in God’s heart, He created a human being in His image with a free-will and ability of choice to choose God and His love for mankind. Gen. 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Now that was a risk!
I do believe in divine protection, health, provision and guidance. I try to live my life in the assurance of God’s love and leading so that I can maneuver my way through the maze and warrens of this precarious world. I also know many of you are doing the same thing, but life happens and it comes and tests our hearts with hard to extreme battles that can weary our souls.
Isa. 40:30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. What is it that gets us through these hard times? Is it the fact that we have an insurance policy with God? No! It is the fact that we have a blessed assurance of His power and love working in our souls and on our behalf for the glory of His love and purpose in our lives.
It is the assurance that God has blessed us with something more sure than insurance. Insurance runs out and has to be renewed and often time the premiums become cost prohibitive, but not the assurance of the Holy Spirit. His eternal and caressive assurance runs forever and is able to sustain us through the darkest valleys until we are lifted into the highest of highs. Heb. 6:11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end.
Abraham and Sarah took a risk when they went out from the land of their fathers to find a city whose builder was God. Heb. 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. They took a risk by leaving their homeland and received a child of promise and became the parents of many nations.
Jacob took a risk by allowing his son Benjamin to go with his brothers to Egypt for food during a famine. Gen. 43:13 Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man: 14 And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved. Jacob took a risk with his son Benjamin and blessings of blessings received Joseph who was thought to be dead because a harmful ruse played on Jacob. Gen. 46:4  I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again: and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.
Daniel took a risk praying to his God openly when a law had been enforced that King Darius was the only one to be given homage to. Dan. 6:7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
Daniel took a risk in his God and the result was a declaration from the same king that Daniel’s God was God and there were none like Him. Dan. 6:26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and steadfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
Paul took a risk preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and was beaten for it. 2 Cor. 11:25 Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep. Paul took the risk and because he did we have most of the New Testament at our fingertips whenever we want to read and believe the assurance of our loving God.
The gospel is the power of Christ living within each one of us who have received Him as Lord. Rom. 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Thank God Paul took that risk in God and thank God that God took that risk in Paul.

There will never be a risk-free life, but we can have a blessed assurance in the life that has risk in it. Whenever we take a faith-filled risk in the Lord our God, then the assurance of hope in Him will bring us into righteous victory and blessing beyond that which we can ask or think. Isa. 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever.

An Offensive Disease

Proverbs 21:2 Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the hearts. We are not talking about the horrible effects that the black death plague, the Spanish flu, or our modern-day HIV had on people's lives. But more insidious, and deceitful is a...

Spiritually Empty

Proverbs 31:26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.              Who are the ones living their spiritual lives on empty? I've noticed that those who break God's laws regularly tend to fall apart when times go bad. They just seem...

The Agony Of The Cross

Proverbs 15:4 Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.              I saw a painting depicting the agony of the cross that Jesus was nailed to. This image so pierced my heart, that it caused an emotional pain of sorrow. Not only was the...
