Get Out Of The Way

Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
I was in a grocery store this week and I noticed an elderly gentleman pushing his shopping cart and leaving it in high traffic areas. He was always in someone’s way. He would be reading the content on a food product and his cart was skewed to an angle that closed off the aisle. No matter where this man stopped, he was causing a shopping cart traffic jam.
The funny thing was that he had no idea he was doing it and did not notice all the angry people who were trying to maneuver around him. He and his cart was an obstruction, no matter where he went in the store. He was blocking the flow of traffic and, by the looks on people’s faces, I reckon he was breaking shopping cart etiquette 101.
I believe the Bible verse everyone was looking for was Isa.
30:11a Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path. I doubt this scripture would have been given to the elderly gentlemen in love, but it was the one I was thinking of when, there he was – right in my way – blocking my access to the watermelons.
What have we allowed to get in the way of our progress and growth in the Lord? What way did we take, going forward with zeal, thinking it was the right way? How have we hindered the blessing of the Lord because we were in the way? What are the results in our lives because we blocked the way of the Lord? Isa. 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Sarai influenced Abram into hurrying up the promise God gave them for their lives by finding another way of fulfilling the promise of a newborn son.
Gen. 16:1 Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. 2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai. Their troubles were compounded because of their way of working out God’s promise toward themselves.
The sons of Aaron thought they could use any fire to minister at the altar of the Lord. Even though they thought it was the right way, the end thereof was death. Lev. 10:1
And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. 2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.
Aaron’s sons got in the way of how God wanted to do things. Maybe it was their familiarity with working the Tabernacle gig and they lost their sense of reverence before their God, or they might have thought they were above the law and did not need grace. Nonetheless, they paid for going their own way with their lives.
I know of a family whose son came home hooked on drugs and the parents kept trying to tell this young man what God expected of him; this was not well received, because the boy was ill with the effects of the methadone cure. The loving parents were confused because they thought they were helping their son, God’s way, by pronouncing what the scriptures said. The word of the Lord that kept coming to the praying parents over and over was GET OUT OF THE WAY!

Every time they felt they should say something they would hear these words in their spirit. Both parents prayed daily for what they thought was inappropriate behavior in their home because the addicted son had moved back in with all his bad habits and carelessness.
The miracles started in the first week of prayer. When they got out of God’s way, the Lord would do something in this young man that was greater than what was asked for. Eph. 3:20 Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
What God did week after week was always above what these parents had asked or thought possible. After four months their son was healthy enough to move out on his own. He worked hard at any job that came along and God continued to work His ways in healing the boy’s life.
I was talking with this young man a few weeks ago and he is completely cured of the drug addictions and healed of the terrible effects of the methadone cure. For the parents, It took a year and a half of praying and practicing getting out of God’s way for them to learn that God’s way is better.

Today this whole and healthy young man is employed at a great company working his dream job. He has declared to me that the Lord has done a great work within him. His love and respect for his parents have grown in leaps and bounds. All I could say was. “Praise the Lord for God is good.”
