For Today Trust The Covenant

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

We often hear the statement “One day at a time.” How simple a statement, but profound, since I can only be in the day I am in. I cannot go back in time nor can I go into the future. I live in the day I exist in. I cannot do anything to change the past and I cannot walk into the future until tomorrow is today.
I can only take control of the day I am living in and that mandate has been given to every man on earth. Today is the day the Lord has made; therefore, what can I do for my life today that will make it worth all it can be? As I awoke this morning I made a declaration of faith for the day.
For today, God willing, I will not fear lack.

The word of God says that God will meet my needs in life. God’s name is Jehovah-Jireh Gen. 22:14a So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. The fear of not having enough is constantly being pushed on us daily. We fret over the two percent of the stuff we do not have and forget to give thanks for the ninety-eight percent of what we do have. Fretting turns to fear. Before we know it, we are worried about the future and envisioning a great disaster and being left out in the cold.
No! The word of God says in Phil. 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. I will trust the covenant God has made with me. We sometimes fear our children will not be provided for. God’s word says the seed of the righteous will not beg bread. Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. Therefore, today I will trust the covenant God made with me.
For today, God willing, I will not fear being left alone.

God says in His word that I am never alone and He is always with me. 1 Cor. 3:16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? As God promised in His covenant He made with all of us, He will never leave us nor forsake us. Deut. 31:6 Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or tremble before them, for the LORD your God is the one who is going with you. He will not fail you or abandon you! For today, I will believe God’s promise and walk in the truth of it.

Just for today, I will believe God is not a man that He should lie to me. I can only live in the day I am in; therefore, taking the time during the day to realize that God is walking with me throughout the day gives me hope for today and the future. If I am at rest in the day I am in, I will be at rest when the next day comes along because it will be a new day to trust the covenant God made with me.
For today, God willing, I will not fear sickness and disease.
God’s word is full of promises declaring He is a healing God and still heals today. God’s name is Jehovah-Rophe. Ex. 15:26b For I am the LORD that heals thee. From the beginning in the Old Testament to the New Testament God’s heart toward His people is forgiveness and healing. Psalm 103:3 Who forgives all thine iniquities; who heals all thy diseases. Fear can bring sickness and great distress in our bodies. God’s first words towards us are so often “Fear not.”
We have a world full of growing fear and diseases to go along with the overcharged feelings of anxiety. No wonder sickness and disease are running rampant. So many have lost the ability to just be still and be at peace for the day they are in. Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. For today, Lord God, I choose your peace and healing for my soul, mind and body.
For today, God willing, I will not fear what man can do to me.
Jesus said not to fear what man can do to us. Matt.10:28a Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Trusting the covenant God made with us is trusting the one who made the covenant in the first place. God is not a man that He should lie; therefore, He can be trusted.
God is greater than man and because of that, I can stop fearing what man can do to me. God is truth and speaks only truth. God loves us perfectly and there is no fear in His love. 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. For today, I will trust the covenant God made with me. For today, God willing, I will not fear the fears of life. Amen!
