God’s Wisdom Works

Proverbs 16:20 He that handles a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusts in the LORD, happy is he.

Most of us do not have to go to jail to find out that the way of a transgressor is hard. Prov. 13:15 Good understanding gives favour: but the way of transgressors is hard. However, this is not true for a lot of people in jail. I realise that there are a lot of mitigating circumstances for people that are incarcerated; however, most of them were not able to learn through the observation of other people’s experiences and mistakes.
It seems like they had to fall to the lowest of lows until they could see the fact that they were not as smart as they thought they were. They found out much too late that they did not have all the answers to their drug, alcohol, gambling and the many problems that overwhelm. Many found out while sitting in a jail cell or cleaning themselves off after vomiting in an ally that they did not have all the answers.
Now, these same people are living in despair, wanting an immediate cure to the dysfunction that took years to establish in their hearts. They ask, “Why me, what did I ever do to deserve this?”John Maxwell says, “You win some and you learn some.” Our hope is that if we did not win a battle, then at least we are learning so that we do not become a failure.
The Proverb is clear when it says, “He that handles a matter wisely shall find good.” Handling something wisely takes wisdom and there is the rub. Wisdom comes from God. Prov. 2:6 For the LORD gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
If the general population does not believe in God, or His instruction, then how can they handle a matter wisely? No wonder God asks us to pray for those who are in governmental authority. 1 Tim. 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
I was asked by a brother at church, “Does everything we are doing on this project have to be so hard? If God is asking us to head in this direction, why then is it such a grind?” Good question I thought. I knew what this man was referring to because I had been thinking the same thing about the same situation. After some discussion, we had come to the conclusion that we had not asked for God’s wisdom for the plan God gave us. We simply went forward in our own wisdom without prayer or conferring with God as to how He wanted the vision to go forward.

Could it be that simple? James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and upbraids not; and it shall be given him. Is that what is meant by handling a matter wisely? Ask God for His wisdom on the matter. Luke 11:9  And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Why do we wait until everything is falling apart before we approach God for His wisdom? Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Most of life’s warning signals are clear and mark out the road clearly. However, similar to driving the main highway, we ignore a lot of the road signs until we are giving a lame excuse to an officer in a speed trap somewhere. The point is that wisdom is crying out to us at all times, wanting our attention. Prov. 8:1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

The wisdom of God is foremost going to work every time without fail. If we act on what the Spirit of God is saying to our hearts, we will eventually succeed at whatever we put our hand to doing in the kingdom of God. The thing we have to learn is not to wait until the walls are coming down to ask for His wisdom.
I recently asked God for His help on something I was working on at the office. I did not like what was suggested and I started arguing. I noticed it got real quiet. I then thought out loud, “Why are you asking for help if you are not going to comply with God’s advice?” After all, He does know the beginning from the end.
I then repented and did as He said. Low and behold, it worked out better than I thought possible. Eph. 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Let us go to God first with a clear conscience and ask what He would and could do to bring victory to the situation we find ourselves in.
Father, in Jesus name, we ask you to remind us that you and your wisdom is ready and available to us the moment we ask. Let that truth become part of our nature. Amen.

Ironies To Contemplate

Anger Is Expensive

Proverbs 16:32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.         In the early 1980s, while attending Bible college and living in Australia, I ministered in prisons for a few years. A common regret among...

Choose Your Hard

Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. No matter what people say, life is hard. Some have it much harder than others, but overall, for most of the world's population, life is...

Make Your Bed

Acts 9:33 There he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years and was paralyzed. 34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed.” Then he arose immediately.         I heard Derek Prince say, "The voice...

You Can’t Say That!

Matthew 10:19 But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say. My pronouns are The Redeemed of the Lord, and The Righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. You can call me that anytime you want....

A Useful Idiot

The Low Hum Of Dread

Joshua 2:10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the waters of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites across the Jordan, whom you devoted to destruction. 11 When we heard this, our hearts...

That’s A Lot Of Faith

Acts 19:19 Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totalled fifty thousand pieces of silver.         When God gets hold of a person's heart, there is...

Christianism Falls Short

Galatians 1:8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a curse!       Christianism generally refers to the use of Christian principles as a political ideology. This is why Christianism does...

Keep Breathing

Genesis 2:7 Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.         My friend Glennis asked her hundred-year-old grandfather what the secret to longevity was. He...

Living Loving Laughing

Daniel 5:5 In the same hour, the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 6 Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him,...

Adjusting To Chaos

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.         Those who have found themselves easily adjusting to chaos, led by...

And Then What?

Matthew 16:26 What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? If I could have that amount in my bank account, then I could... If I owned that property, then I could.... If I had all that...
