A Miserable Hell

Proverbs 7:9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night.

I heard a news anchor person saying that a particular politician had created a miserable hell for himself and there was no hope for his situation. Is there any other kind of hell but a miserable one? Why do we end up in such positions of destruction while we live on this green earth? Wars continue on a worldwide scale, while hunger kills millions every year. The fear factor in the world is now on a color scale to alert us to the imminent danger of a terrorist attack. The world lives on the edge of misery and destruction continually and seems hell-bent on collapsing completely.
The Lord tells us not to be troubled by what we see going on around the world. Matt.
24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. Jesus says to go on living in the peace He has secured through the sacrifice of the cross for each one of us who love and accept Him as Lord. Jesus says His peace can overcome the fear of world events and we can live in His peace. John 14:27 I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
When the news anchor used the adjective miserable to describe hell, I thought of the words in the bible that described it. Black, torment, darkness, consuming fire and on it goes to explain what it is like to be separated from our God forever and ever. Jude 1:13b To whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

The Apostle Peter describes people who wander from God and reject Him as ending up driven by the storms of life and suffering eternally for it. 2 Pet. 2:17 These are springs without water and mists driven by a storm, for whom the black darkness has been reserved. Why would anyone want to end up this way for eternity? Separated and tormented in the gloom of complete darkness with no light or relief to come. Mark 9:48 In hell worms that eat the body never die, and the fire is never put out.
Many say, “How could a loving God do this to his created beings?” True, He is pure love but He is also the eternal judge. Rev. 20:12 I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books.
The good news is that Jesus gave His own life for us all so we would never have to go to a miserable hell or be conquered by eternal death. What a victory Jesus has secured for us who have accepted His sacrifice. Talk about the gracious hand of God being upon our lives. 2 Cor. 5:21 God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
Jesus went to hell on our behalf because of His amazing love for us and conquered death and hell so we would never have to face that eternal darkness. Rev. 1:18 I am He that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. The peace of knowing there is no misery of hell in our eternal future is a peace that surpasses understanding.
The amazing grace that has been poured out on us is beyond that which we could have thought of or asked for. Eph. 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
There is no torment or misery in Christ. Where we spend eternity is our choice. Jesus says to come to Him and He will give us rest. What more can He do? Matt. 11:28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Ironies To Contemplate

There Is No Hate Like Christian Hate

Proverbs 6:16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to Him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a lying witness who gives false...

Anger Is Expensive

Proverbs 16:32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.         In the early 1980s, while attending Bible college and living in Australia, I ministered in prisons for a few years. A common regret among...

Choose Your Hard

Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. No matter what people say, life is hard. Some have it much harder than others, but overall, for most of the world's population, life is...

Make Your Bed

Acts 9:33 There he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years and was paralyzed. 34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed.” Then he arose immediately.         I heard Derek Prince say, "The voice...

You Can’t Say That!

Matthew 10:19 But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say. My pronouns are The Redeemed of the Lord, and The Righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. You can call me that anytime you want....

A Useful Idiot

The Low Hum Of Dread

Joshua 2:10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the waters of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites across the Jordan, whom you devoted to destruction. 11 When we heard this, our hearts...

That’s A Lot Of Faith

Acts 19:19 Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totalled fifty thousand pieces of silver.         When God gets hold of a person's heart, there is...

Christianism Falls Short

Galatians 1:8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a curse!       Christianism generally refers to the use of Christian principles as a political ideology. This is why Christianism does...

Keep Breathing

Genesis 2:7 Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.         My friend Glennis asked her hundred-year-old grandfather what the secret to longevity was. He...

Living Loving Laughing

Daniel 5:5 In the same hour, the fingers of a man’s hand appeared and wrote opposite the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 6 Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him,...

Adjusting To Chaos

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.         Those who have found themselves easily adjusting to chaos, led by...
