My wife was filling her bird feeders, trying to attract the bight yellow ones that delight her with chirps and antics only birds can do. Rejoicing in the blessings of God is easy when all is well. 1 Thes. 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
I came into the house to find my wife with concern on her face and looking a bit teary. She had just found out her mother had been taken to the hospital for some seemingly light problem: low sodium. By the end of the day the news was horrendous because two malignant and aggressive tumors had been found on her mother’s brain. As the saying goes, “Beyond this point there be monsters.”
With a courageous intake of breath, she said to me, “Is the Lord only a good God when things go well or is He our God at all times?” Duet. 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. My wife’s question is a good one. Jesus is Lord of all or not at all and that is the truth regardless of what we go through in life.
True enough, the feelings of fear, uncertainty, discouragement, and sorrow are real and an honest reaction to terrible events that take place in our lives, but we can eventually overcome the sickening affects these temporary monsters do to our heart. Jesus, who loves us with an everlasting love, reminds us that there is nothing in this earthly realm, whether seen or unseen, that can overtake and conquer our souls. John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
There may be monsters beyond certain points in our lives and the psyche of our minds. However, God has put within each one of us His spirit so we can destroy the works of any monster that comes against us, in Jesus name! Phil. 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.
What the doctors are saying and reporting may be the facts of the situation, but the truth is God still heals and Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith and lives. Heb. 12:2a Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Eph. 3:20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.
There may be monsters beyond this point: however, our God is able to defeat anything that will come our way in life. We often hear the term “The battle belongs to the Lord.” 2 Chro. 20:15b For the battle is not yours, but God’s. Well, this is true at all times.
The battle our family is going through also belongs to Him as well and we will put our trust in the resurrected power of our Lord Jesus. Thank you, Lord, for your grace and guidance in our lives. Lord God, you are truly faithful to those who are yours. Amen.
