Proverbs 8:1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?
John 1:23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’ ” There is a vast wilderness of spiritual ignorance in our world. I’m not saying that people are not spiritual. I’m saying they are using their spiritual voice to spout nonsense and present doctrines of men and devils as some kind of truth that can deliver a soul from the grips of despair. These voices are declaring modern views of belief that are nothing more than a resurgence of snake oil cures that do more harm than good. The desperate people who are drawn to these other voices are being smothered by a desolate loneliness they cannot escape from. 2Tim.4:3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. These poor souls are always looking for a voice of understanding but keep finding multiple opinions of vagueness.
What kind of a voice are you? A voice of division, or a voice that proclaims the unifying word of the Lord? We were created to be and live as spiritual beings and be spiritually discerning throughout our lives. God made us with the ability to respond to His Spirit through His Son Jesus Christ. Our voice matters and what we say matters. It is no small thing that Jesus said we will be judged for every empty word we say. Matt. 12:36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. Yikes! Have you been talking stupid lately? Have you been using your voice to promote something contrary to what God says is a fact and truth?
I know we can be doing and saying things out of ignorance and there is grace for that. However, when God makes it clear to us that we have been proclaiming, preaching, or sharing false doctrine, we had better repent and start living within the revelatory understanding we received from the Holy Spirit. To continue sharing the erroneous teaching is playing with unauthorized fire. Lev. 10:1 Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took their respective firepans, and after putting fire in them, placed incense on it and offered strange fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. 2 And fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD. Nadab and Abihu paid for their rebellion with their lives. They chose to minister in ignorance even though they had written laws describing how God wanted ministry done. A Voice of understanding is just that. We act on what God’s voice has just caused us to understand.
The Bible expressly declares that if we need wisdom and answers on anything, we can ask God, who will respond if we ask Him by faith. James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. We tend to complicate things when we approach God with a preconceived idea of what we want Him to say to us, and when we don’t get the word we wanted, we think God has not heard us. On the contrary, He said what He said, and we need to adjust our hearts to His leading. If we want understanding and the ability to voice it, then we need to keep studying God’s word and living it as we continue learning. 2Tim 2:15 Hasten to present yourself approved to God, a workman not ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
When Saul was persecuting the church and Jesus met him on the road to Damascus, Saul did not argue with Jesus once he knew it was Christ the Lord dealing with him. Acts 9:5 And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Saul got the message loud and clear. He did not start with a litany of excuses and reasons for his misplaced zeal. Saul accepted the new reality by repenting of his old ways and went forth with the new revelation of Jesus Christ that was growing in his heart. Acts 9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. Understanding came to Saul because he accepted what Jesus had said to his heart.
I want to be a voice of understanding and hopefully, you do as well. I don’t want to sound like a cranky old man, but I think the church has failed miserably when it comes to communicating the mission of the Lord in this world. As church buildings become the headquarters of a political party, drop-in-centres for syncretists, and party houses with fog machines, and flashing lights to mesmerize the people into filling out membership forms, surely we can do better. The Lord asked us to go into the world and preach the gospel. The word gospel means the revelation of Jesus Christ. Are we doing what God asked us to do? Are we sharing the revelation of Jesus Christ? Prov. 8:1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? When we obey what Jesus sowed in our hearts, we will understand what the Lord is saying to us and we will be a voice of understanding in this world. God bless us all.
