Jeremiah 15:18, Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, refuseth to be healed? Wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?
Our pain may be perpetual because we have been living a perpetual lie. Jer. 15:18a Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable? We have a catalogue of lies to choose from in Satan’s variety store. What ladder of life have you climbed to the top, that you now know the ladder is leaning on the wrong wall? Now that you are getting older and hopefully wiser, what do you know for sure to be a lie that you thought was something you needed to accomplish? Maybe these are some of the lies you fell for: If I get married, I won’t be lonely anymore. If I earn my diploma, I will secure my ideal career. If I worked hard and bought the best of everything, I would be satisfied. If I were another gender, everything would become easier for me. When I retire, I will have time for my family. If I put my trust in a political party, then I will be safe and prosperous.
The If and When lie can control many of one’s choices. If I get into that college, then my family will respect me. If I achieve that promotion, then I will be set for life. If I catch a break in the market, then I will be able to do what I want. Eccl. 1:14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun, and have found them all to be futile, a pursuit of the wind. If I vote for that political party, then I will be safe. Many in the last decade have awakened to the lies upon which our governments build their foundations. If you are still expecting and waiting for the government to save you, then you are living with childish beliefs. We have become used to lies, corruption, and graft within government being done openly and without fear of consequence. This has caused the hearts of the people to be filled with pure cynicism and hopelessness. Prov. 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Government officials who lie to us have become commonplace, but what about the lies we are still believing that are hidden just outside of our inner peripheral vision?
A deep lie that all mankind is wrestling with is our inability to accept our identity in who God made us to be in His image. For some reason, we struggle to believe who God says we are. Yet, if Satan says we are the dregs of society, with little thought, we believe his lies about ourselves. Satan works overtime with no pay to kill the identity God has birthed in each person who has ever lived, who is alive, and will be born. Rev. 12:10b For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. Not until the end of days will Satan ever stop accusing people of the lies he has perfected over the millennia of humanity’s existence. Who we are in Christ, and what we believe about ourselves matters, otherwise the enemy of our souls would not be spending so much time and resources to crush our thoughts and faith in God our Father.
Jesus went to the cross to show us how much God loves us and has an eternal plan for our individual lives. While we were yet in the depths of a sinful existence, Jesus was crucified for our sins. Why do we find it so difficult to put our trust in God’s love after His amazing sacrifice and salvation that was given to us? Rom. 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Yet, a lying wonder like the devil comes along, accusing, berating, and doing his best to destroy our lives with anxiety, depression and oppression, and people fall for what he says about them. No Saints. Satan is the father of lies, and there is no truth in him. If the devil is taking the time to convince you that you are worthless, then you can count on the fact that the truth about yourself would be the opposite. John 8:44b He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.
One of the things that weighs heavily on parents’ hearts is that they want their children to believe they are loved and can trust the love given to them. Yet, the children will only imitate what they see their parents doing. If they hear their parents accepting and walking in the lies of life, then the children will do the same. Why should a child believe their parents love them when they see their parents do not believe God loves them? You cannot tell your children to love their friends at school while berating the neighbour over a social infraction you deem offensive. Jesus said to love your neighbour as yourself. This act of love becomes difficult if you hate yourself and believe every lie the devil is telling you about yourself. I feel sorry for your neighbours if you are loving them the way you love yourself. The big fat lie that the enemy tries to convince us of is that God does not love us.
The love of God towards us is never in doubt. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. What we do with the love of God will determine whether we walk in freedom or regret. The Word of God is continually exhorting us to walk, talk, and live in the love of God and to extend His love to those we meet. If someone does not believe the love that God has for them, then the very foundation of their existence will be flawed because they were created to be loved and know the love of God. The first breath that was transferred into Adam’s lungs was full of God’s eternal life and love. We were created in love, and this is what Satan is trying to deceive us from believing. The love of God never fails and is the weapon that destroys the work of the devil.
The key is to continue reading and hearing the Word of God, which continually reinforces the love of God within us. 1John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. The truth is that we can abide in love. The big fat lie is that we do not deserve God’s love. Thank God for His loving grace that also exposes the lies of the enemy. It is our choice who we will believe. I believe God loves me, and praise the Lord for His love.
Good things to take to heart and use. I will be sharing this. Thank you.
I don’t know Norm. A person could go through life with the intention of working their way down that ladder. With no aspirations to secular sucess , Be confident in knowing the unlimited extent that Father God has for them, and still feel like Jerimiah. Maybe you could write about those individuals
True, Larry, when I read Jeremiah and Ezekiel, I always feel for what they were asked to do and suffer through. What I know is that when God shows me a lie I have fallen for, my responsibility is to reject it and renounce the effect it might have had on my spirit.
Keep growing, bro.
Many points to ponder here!
You asked, “Now that you are getting older and hopefully wiser, what do you know for sure to be a lie that you thought was something you needed to accomplish?”. The prophecy focused church I use attend many years ago really like to quote the verses like Luke 21:36 (NIV): “Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” and the idea was that it was ok to get hooked on news because you know, we need to watch always. …. I must say, that was a lie. I need to put my news watching time into reading the word time!!!! God help me break this addiction!
Well, Clay, I have seen the work God has done in your heart over the years, and I can say you have grown well in your authentic faith since the days of that old assembly you were once part of. God is good and has blessed you richly.
